The material in this account originally appeared in Mungo Park (http://mungopark.com), an online adventure site published by Microsoft. The site started in 1996 and ran until 1998, with new destinations every month carried live on the Web. The "River Road to Timbuktu" was a signature trip, focusing as it did on the magazine's namesake the Scottish explorer Mungo Park (1771-1806?)
Mungo Park was taken off the Web in 2001, and its riches of content are now lost. This event has been recreated to showcase the efforts of the writer (Christian Kallen) and photographer (Denise Rocco). Design by Roger Los; production by Trish Reynales and others.
