View from the Bridge of the Panama Canal

The first locks on the Panama Canal is at Miraflores, on the Pacific side, just a few miles from Panama City. This high view looking east toward the Atlantic shows a blue tanker in the east-ward canal, as the lock gates are about to close behind it. Construction on the canal began 100 years ago, in 1904.
