The contents of this notebook have long been thought to have been lost
- or at least forgotten. Unfortunately, these torn pages and hasty scribbles
have come to light.
This project
was undertaken in February 2003 as part of Slate.com's "Well-Traveled"
series, for which I served as field producer and photographer. Often
on these trips I keep my own journal; on this one it was almost all
that survived, since all of my digital images were lost upon returning
to the U.S. The images you'll find within are for the most part from
the set transmitted to Slate but never used.
