Streaming Videos

Technology for streaming digital video has improved over the past several years, and now video on the web is the latest next big thing. Shorter is better: commercials are content. In light of this diminuation of the electronic attention span, some of these videos may be on the long side, but maybe they're worth the wait. You'll have to find out for yourself.

For the latest videos, visit our page on YouTube and the Adventure Channel from Brightcove. And be sure to check out GreenTV from the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

One of the coolest hikes in the world is along the north coast of Kauai, where no road encircles Hawaii's westernmost major island. Take a hike along the Kalalau Trail to the beach at Hanakapi'ai, one of the great hikes of Hawaii. Enjoy this slideshow with great music by the Duo-Tones, "Baja Nights."

For Slate's Well-Traveled series, we went to Paris with the 21st century scooter the Segway. The idea was to make it a people-mover for pedestrians; let's see how Old Europe reacts to the 21st century. (Funky music from Acid 2.0)

Birding in Panama (1:21)
Back in the last century I traveled to Panama to seek the white-tailed trogon, the Pirre bush-tanager, and the gray-bellied antipitta. Led by Hernan Arauz of Ancon Expeditions, we found all those and more, manyof the 900 birds endemic to this narrow nation between two continents. View the video here, and read the article from the archives of MSNBC. (Keep your media window small for best image quality)

Go to Costa Rica for more experiments in field-producing videos for some incentive and adventure tour vacations. Ziplining, sailing, and water sliding - just another day in paradise.
