The
clean lines of Scandinavian design are familiar to us all, from
our visits to Ikea, our Nokia phones, our stackable chairs and even
the simple architecture of modernism. With Jim Hall, the
erudite lifestyle writer for New York Times and the New
Yorker, we traveled to Denmark, Sweden and finally Finland for
two weeks of Scandinavian Architecture and Design.
Once
again I did time as digital photographer and field producer, ably
assisted by Jim Laurel of Spectare
Media, who did daily video features. From Copenhagen to Helsinki,
by way of Sweden's Glass District and Stockholm, our immersion in
the fine arts spanned styles from classical to post-modern, with
emphasis on the work of Arne Jacobsen and Alvar Aalto. (If you'd
like the behind-the-scenes story on this one, read my personal Scandinavian
Journal.)
Don't
forget:
The
Outlaw Trail In the dusty tracks of Butch Cassidy, with
Alexandra Fuller.
Costa
Rica: Exploring Ecotourism Turtles and trogons, with Natalie
Angier.
The
Blues Highway From the Deep South to the South Side, with
Tim Cahill.
Segways
in Paris Touring France's capital by techno-scooter, with
Tad Friend.
