The Alamo, San Antonio, Texas

They just won't let you visit Texas without telling you about the Alamo, and if you're anywhere near San Antonio they'll make sure you pay your respects. It's practically holy ground — in fact it is a "shrine," and you have to take your hat off and speak in whispers. So, yeah, it's pretty cool, and its history is better than its movies, but they won't let you take pictures inside the building. You just have to stand outside and look around, imagining Santa Anna's troops bombarding these adobe walls.
